Benefits of Artificial Grass
Why Choose Fake Grass?
Naturally we can come up with a number of reasons of why choose fake grass over a natural lawn - as an artificial grass company of course we would.
However, we do appreciate that with almost everything in life there will be differing opinions, viewpoints and people who may also have other agendas for voicing their views on social media. We're all different and have different circumstances which will mean we will prioritise the value of something differently to the next person and artificial grass is no different.
One of the main reasons a homeowner will choose to make the move to fake grass will be to reduce the maintenance require to look after real lawn. As peoples lives become busier and family time can sometimes be squeezed, parents would like to enjoy time with their family rather than tending to mundane garden tasks such as moving and weeding the lawn so for the choosing fake grass gives them back additional weekend family time. Other people with different circumstances may enjoy mowing a lawn and use it for a little me time - we're all different and not here to judge!
What is Good About Artificial Grass?
So we've already touched upon some of the time savings which can be attributed to an artificial lawn but what are some of the other benefits - what is good about artificial grass? The other main driver for families wanting to switch to artificial grass are those who own pets and more specifically dogs. Many dog owners will not own a particularly aesthetic lawn. Typically there will be yellow patches caused by dog urine and often the lawn will be uneven where a dog has intentionally or unintentionally started digging or scuffing up the grass. An artificial turf once laid will provide a flat even lawn and this will stay like that even with several dogs in the home, or rather garden. The other main benefit of artificial grass for dog owners will be the opportunity to say goodbye to muddy paw prints coming into the house when your dog has been out in the garden on the lawn, in the wet. As mentioned, if your lawn lacks grass it will have mud instead and this will be brought into your house by your dogs paws - gone with a fake grass lawn.
The aesthetics of an artificial grass lawn whilst very noticeable for dog owners is most noticeable in the autumn and winter months. Tree shade or fallen leaves which normally end up killing off the grass underneath leave thinning patches of lawn will not be an issue. Alternatively long unruly grass, which is common in autumn when the mower has been put away until the spring will also become a thing of the past.
Artificial Grass versus Real Grass
Whilst we've covered off some of the more practical and emotive reasons why more and more people choose artificial grass there is the environmental angle which can become a little more contentious. Whilst you can argue that anything that is man made uses energy in a factory is not good for the environment, artificial grass is no different to any manufactured product which everyone will be using in everyday life. Our synthetic grass is manufactured in Europe using recycled materials so from that perspective it is playing its part in the recycle / reuse circle. However, to take a holistic view of artificial grass versus real grass this should be done over the lifetime of an artificial lawn in the same way that costs comparisons should be done too.
Over 10 years how much water will you use to try to keep your lawn looking lush? How many pesticides, weed and moss killers will be used, how much energy will be used to mow and scarify your lawn?
From a nature perspective whilst there has been encouragement to leave grass or sections of grass un-mown to encourage insect diversity we have found that many more gardens end up having much more plant and flower diversity when home owners can focus on the rest of the garden rather than the lawn.
As mentioned there can be many viewpoints but overall artificial grass provides a very compelling option for garden lawns.
